Brume Walks #2: LAKE LÉON

  • 2 min read

At the origin of the Courant d’Huchet, Lake Léon stretches peacefully at the heart of the Landes forest. More discreet than the nearby ocean, it offers a calm alternative, ideal for slowing down, walking, or spending a few quiet hours by the water.

Easy to access and surrounded by nature, the lake is one of those simple places that naturally blend into the rhythm of a stay at Brume Surf House.

A NATURAL LAKE IN THE HEART OF THE LANDES

Lake Léon is a naturally formed body of water, bordered by pine trees and wetlands. It plays an essential role in the ecological balance of the region, as it directly feeds into the Courant d’Huchet.

Its shores host diverse wildlife and offer ever-changing views, calm waters, dense vegetation, and shifting light throughout the day.

an easy walk for everyone

The loop around the lake is perfectly suited for walking or cycling. The wide, well-maintained paths allow you to follow the water’s edge while staying in the shade of the pines.

It’s a gentle walk, without elevation, suitable for families as well as for those simply looking for time outdoors, without a specific goal. The pace is your own: pause, observe, continue.

gentle activities of the water

Lake Léon can also be experienced from the water. In season, activities such as paddle boarding or canoeing are available, ideal for enjoying the peaceful setting without disturbing its natural balance.

a place shaped by the time of day

The lake shifts in atmosphere as the hours pass.

In the morning, it is often silent, almost still. Toward the end of the day, the low light transforms the reflections on the water and invites you to linger a little longer.

It’s the perfect place after a surf session, or on softer days when the ocean is rough, or when you’re simply craving calm.

During your stay, feel free to ask Gillian and Marie for advice. They’ll gladly point you toward the most beautiful spots depending on the season and your mood.
